Chris cut his business teeth in a number of buying placements at J Sainsbury plc, and began his career in earnest at British Airways on a structured graduate development programme in procurement and supply. At 27 he was the youngest senior manager appointee when he assumed responsibility for the airline’s retail activities. Chris’ re-engineering of the retail operating model drove 40% year on year sales growth through the complete overhaul of the supply chain and warehousing operations, product range, supplier contractual relationships and marketing and promotional activity. Chris doubled turnover to £120m through the establishment of British Airways Enterprises – providing outsourced retail solutions to international airlines, securing contracts with Monarch, Britannia, Air New Zealand, Malaysian Airlines, American Airlines, Qantas and Lufthansa. After fruitless management buy-out discussions with BA’s board, Chris moved to the retail practice at Accenture before joining the private equity rescue of telecoms company Energis led by Archie Norman.
A key member of the 20 strong senior management team, Chris played an instrumental part in the 2 year restructuring of the organisation in a variety of product and sales roles prior to its sale to Cable and Wireless for £750m in 2005. He then fulfilled a commitment to the board at C&W to complete the integration of the two businesses wholesale sales functions before setting up a specialist business development consultancy. Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, and has an MA in Modern History from St John’s College Oxford
