The Problem
Vodafone subsidiary, Yes Telecom, were struggling to keep hold of the great people they were recruiting. As a mobile phone service provider on tight margins, the 85% employee churn each year was almost killing them. Something had to change.
Chemistry worked with Yes Telecom to understand their business objectives and consequently what they needed their people approach to be. Yes Telecom management had believed that the best way to deliver their business goals was to recruit wonderfully bright, entrepreneurial people. However, management also wanted to make sure that they kept a handle on the performance and process these entrepreneurs were following. These two goals were pulling against each other and each time the need for management control won out.
How We Helped
Chemistry helped Yes Telecom to understand that it was possible to deliver their business goals with a different people strategy. Yes Telecom needed to recruit and develop people who were more comfortable conforming to a process, but who could use initiative when it was appropriate. Chemistry built processes and increased Yes Telecom skills to identify and select those people most likely to succeed.
The Result
The impact was immediate. Within 9 months employee attrition had dropped from 85% to 12%, with none in the last couple of months. The costs saved in recruitment fees, management time are large, but larger still is the impact on revenue and overall profitability.
Costs down, revenue up - the perfect double win!
