So why are so many people getting it wrong?
Well, talent management is business strategy applied to people. That means it falls between the domain of senior managers (business and operational strategies) and the world of HR departments (HR processes).
The problem for most managers is that they have developed only a basic set of tools to deal with people issues and the business doesn’t really reward them for getting it right. So despite the fact that we all know that our people are the business, managers still find it complicated to turn strategies in to reality.
In most businesses it remains difficult for "the business" to trust HR to engage with strategic issues. And HR find it difficult to be allowed to break out of their traditional space of making the people processes work and keeping everyone out of court! Despite the re-labelling of HR as "business partners" it has been a slow journey.
Yet the demands of shareholders mean that this journey has to rapidly accelerate. So what is the answer? You might need some help?
